PM Modi condoles loss of lives in Afghanistan earthquake

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences today over the loss of lives caused by the earthquake in Afghanistan.

Posting on the social media platform X, he said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected.”

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck eastern Afghanistan around midnight yesterday, claiming more than 800 lives and injuring approximately 2,500, according to Taliban officials.

The tremor affected four provinces, with the mountainous region of Kunar bearing the brunt of the disaster. The earthquake triggered devastating landslides and flooding, exacerbating the impact on the rugged terrain and complicating rescue and relief efforts, as per the reports.
