PM Modi calls for swadeshi-focussed festivities

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) As the nation immerses itself in festive celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged citizens to opt for indigenous products, reinforcing the spirit of Swadeshi and the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).

Referring to the ongoing Ganesh Utsav and the approaching festive season, the Prime Minister in his 125th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address said the celebrations offer a meaningful opportunity to align cultural traditions with economic nationalism.

“At this time, the whole country is celebrating the pomp and fervour of ‘Ganesh Utsav’. The radiance of many festivals will spread in the coming days. You should never forget about Swadeshi during these festivals.

“Gifts should be those made in India, Attire should be that woven in India, decor should be that made from materials made in India, Luminary items from India-made frills – and many more; everything in every need of life should be Swadeshi,” he said.

Calling on people to take pride in using locally made products, he added: “Say with pride ‘this is Swadeshi’, say with pride ‘this is Swadeshi’, say with pride ‘this is Swadeshi’. We have to move forward with this feeling. One mantra – ‘Vocal for Local’; One path – ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’; One goal – ‘Developed India’.”

The address is in line with the government’s ongoing push for economic self-reliance and sustainable consumption through locally manufactured goods.

The PM also reiterated the importance of cleanliness during the festival period and reminded citizens that the joy of celebrations is enhanced when surroundings are clean.

“Friends, amidst all this joy, keep emphasizing on cleanliness, because where there is cleanliness, the joy of festivals rises even more,” he said.
