‎PM Modi becomes longest-serving head of government in India

‎New Delhi, March 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving head of a government in India, surpassing the previous record held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
The milestone was highlighted in a post by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday, marking what was described as a historic moment in India’s political landscape.
‎According to the post, Prime Minister Modi has now completed 8,931 days in public office as head of government, overtaking Chamling’s record of 8,930 days.
The message described the achievement as a reflection of “pure devotion to the nation and its people,” adding that Modi’s journey has been defined by “nation-first governance, integrity in action, and tireless service to every citizen.”
‎The post further traced Modi’s long political career, noting that his leadership journey spans from his years as Chief Minister of Gujarat to his current tenure as Prime Minister. “From his unwavering commitment as the Chief Minister of Gujarat to his dedicated leadership as the Prime Minister, his life has been a continuous journey of service,” it said.
‎It also extended congratulations, stating, “Heartiest congratulations to Modi Ji on this remarkable achievement,” while emphasising that the milestone represents sustained continuity in public service over decades.
‎Modi, who first became Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 before assuming office as Prime Minister in 2014, has now completed more than two decades in top executive roles across state and national governance.
The record underscores his unusually long tenure as a head of government in India’s post-independence political history, a period marked by multiple electoral victories and extended administrative continuity.
‎The announcement quickly drew attention across political circles, with supporters highlighting the scale of his tenure as evidence of political stability and public mandate over successive elections.
