Thane, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched two metro projects–Line 5 and Line 9, which will connect Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander corridors respectively at Kalyan city of the district.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Modi said that by 2022-24 the citizens of Mumbai and surrounding areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will get the network of a total 275 kms of metro line.
Taking a jibe at the previous government, he further said that work on the maiden metro project in Mumbai started in 2006 but only 11 km of the line was laid till 2014.
Hence, the present government has decided to increase the speed of such mega metro projects as well as the speed of the metro trains.
The Prime Minister further said that considering the rapid urbanization of the towns and the cities in the MMR, the government is paying attention for upgrading the transportation system and improving the geographical connectivity so as to reduce the existing burden on the ageing transport infrastructure.
Along with the foundation stone laying ceremony, Prime Minister Modi launched housing project to construct 90,000 tenements which being built by City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).These houses are being built for people belonging to different strata of the economic layer.
Owing to the project, Prime Minister Modi assured the masses that every citizen will own a house by the year 2022.
Prime Minister Modi’s speech also had instances where he took a strong dig at the scams which took place during the tenure of the Congress government.
Referring to the Adarsh Housing Society scam, Prime Minister said that the houses which are being developed by the present government will serve as ‘Adarsh’ (ideal) homes unlike the scam which took place in the year 2010.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked the Prime Minister for all his support for the developmental projects being carried out in the state.
Mr Fadnavis said that based on the demand of Minister of State (Ports), the state government is mulling on other two metro lines which will run through Dombivili to Taloja and Mira Road to Vasai Virar route.A Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared in the coming days, added Mr Fadnavis.
The Prime Minister started his speech in the Marathi language and paid tributes to prominent leaders of Maharashtra.
Asserting the agility of the BJP in undertaking the works of development, Prime Minister Modi said that the present government’s ‘Sanskar, Sarokar and Raftaar’ (Culture, Way of Working, Speed) were very different from the previous government.
