PM extends greetings on World Sanskrit Day, highlights govt’s efforts to promote ancient language

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of World Sanskrit Day, observed annually on Shravan Poornima.

Describing Sanskrit as “a timeless source of knowledge and expression,” the Prime Minister highlighted its enduring relevance and wide-ranging influence across disciplines.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, Modi lauded scholars, students, and enthusiasts worldwide who are dedicated to learning and promoting the ancient language.

“Today, on the day of Shravan Poornima, we observe World Sanskrit Day. Sanskrit is an eternal source of knowledge and expression. Its influence can be seen across various fields. This day is an occasion to appreciate every individual across the world who is striving to learn and promote Sanskrit,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Reiterating his government’s sustained efforts to revive and popularise Sanskrit, Modi noted: “In the past decade, our government has undertaken several initiatives for the promotion of Sanskrit. These include the establishment of three central Sanskrit universities, the launch of Sanskrit learning centres, provision of grants to Sanskrit scholars, and the Gyan Bharata Mission for digitising manuscripts. Through these efforts, countless students and researchers have benefitted.”

World Sanskrit Day is celebrated with an aim to raise awareness about the historical and cultural significance of the language, and encouraging its continued study and usage across generations.
