New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced financial assistance for victims of a tragic fire mishap in Anandapur, West Bengal, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries caused by the incident.
In a message on X, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to those injured. “The recent fire mishap in Anandapur, West Bengal, is very tragic and saddening. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi said.
He also announced ex gratia compensation from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). According to the statement, an amount of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will get Rs 50,000.
A massive blaze ripped through warehouse structures in Anandapur, Kolkata, in the early hours of Monday, killing at least seven people and leaving about 20 others missing as firefighters continue search efforts amid smouldering debris. The warehouses housed flammable materials that accelerated the fire’s spread.
