“Please, Uncle! Go to the market with cloth bags.”

Bhopal. A vibrant wave of young environmentalists has taken to the streets of Bhopal, launching a compelling and ongoing campaign against the scourge of polythene. What began on World Paper Bag Day, July 12th, is set to continue until World Environment Day, November 26th, championing a sustainable lifestyle and a clean environment.

The student body of Sharda Vidya Mandir, Neelbad, turned a regular school event into a special ‘Go-Green’ awareness rally. Moving through Barkhedikalan, Neelbad Road, and Swastik Colony, the children’s message resonated deeply: Completely boycott polythene.

With infectious enthusiasm, they distributed free, handmade paper bags, a tangible alternative to single-use plastics. Addressing vendors with a humble plea, children urged, “Uncle, please! Stop giving things in polythene.” This earnest appeal, coupled with a disciplined demonstration, captivated onlookers. Many people responded with pledges to avoid polythene and thanked the children for the thoughtful paper bags.

Earlier, the students honed their artistic skills making these bags and received instruction on the harmful effects of plastic. Carrying colorful banners and their self-made bags, the young activists inspired elders to take the pledge and spread the awareness in their own neighborhoods.

Sharda Vidya Mandir Principal, Shefali Gautam, lauded the children’s initiative, appealing to the public to make the students’ efforts a lasting success by choosing cloth and paper over plastic.
