Perth, India on Tuesday lost the second Test against Australia by 146 runs after Kangaroos bowled them out for 146 runs in the second Test of the four-match series at Optus stadium in Perth here on Tuesday.
With the comprehensive win, the hosts levelled the Test series 1-1 with two more matches to be played in Melbourne and Sydney. As a captain this is Tim Paine’s first win.
Australia’s Spinner Nathan Lyon shined once again as claimed eight wickets in the match to help the hosts to to level the Test series.
The hosts managed to break lower order and dismissed them inside the first 40 minutes on the final day.
Set 287 to win, India resumed at 115/5 on the final day and never looked confident enough to pull off a miraculous victory, and lost their last five wickets for just 21 runs.
India’s star batsman Virat Kohli were already sent to pavilion for 17 runs on the fourth day. Now the hopes rested on Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant.
However, Vihari added just four to his overnight score and fell to Mitchell Starc for 28.
Pant, who was all alone and looking for partners on the other side, tried to settle but miscued a drive off Nathan Lyon low to midwicket, where he caught by Peter Handscomb.
All hopes went in vain, after Pant dismissal for 30 runs from where India needed 150 runs.
Umesh Yadav lasted 23 balls as India slid to 139 for eight.Ishant Sharma too failed to settle down at the crease and Pat Cummins delivery showed him the way to pavilion.Jasprit Bumrah, tried to hit a big shot but couldn’t succeeded and gave an easy catch to Pat Cummins.
Yesterday, Australia were bowled out for 243 in the second innings. Indian bowlers Mohammed Shami’s 6/56 with an economy of 2.33 was the star bowler for India while Bumrah also contributed taking 3 wickets and Ishant Sharma took one.
