Bhopal: On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jeetu Patwari on Friday unveiled the statue of late freedom fighter Bhagirath Verma at Gavli Palasia in Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow). Addressing a large workers’ convention on the occasion, Patwari spoke at length on strengthening the party organisation and upholding democratic values.
He said the Congress organisation in Madhya Pradesh was steadily moving towards greater unity and expansion. Those contributing to strengthening the party would always be respected, he said, adding that dialogue, cooperation and mutual respect were essential to address any dissatisfaction within the organisation. “A strong organisation is built on trust and collective unity,” he remarked.
Senior Congress leaders, including Indore Rural district president Vipin Wankhede and former district president Sadashiv Yadav, along with a large number of party office-bearers and workers, were present.
Later, Patwari reached Rajendra Nagar police station in Indore, where an FIR was lodged over the alleged misuse of Form-7 and irregularities under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma and several Congress workers accompanied him.
Patwari claimed that as a Booth Level Agent (BLA), he had personally witnessed irregularities on his own booth. He warned that providing false information to delete voters’ names was a punishable offence under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Alleging collusion between officials and BJP workers, he said the Congress would oppose any attempt to undermine democracy, from the streets to the courts.
