Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari on Friday received a warm welcome from party workers at various locations while travelling from Indore to Jhabua. During the visit, he participated in the Jeevan Bachao Maha Andolan at Meghnagar’s industrial area and the district-level Kisan Khet Nyay Yatra.
Prominent Congress leaders, including former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria, state co-incharge Sanjay Dutt, national president of Adivasi Congress and MLA Vikrant Bhuria, MLAs Pratap Grewal and Hiralal Alawa, as well as district leaders such as Prakash Ranka, Xavier Meda and Sonal Bhabhar, were present at the events.
Addressing a public gathering in Jhabua, Patwari raised concerns over media independence and the declining credibility of journalism. He criticised what he described as “government-sponsored journalists,” accusing them of damaging the image of the fourth pillar of democracy. “A group, now known as ‘godi media’, is undermining impartiality and weakening democratic forces,” he said, urging journalists to speak boldly in the interest of the people and against injustice.
Patwari accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of handing media control to corporate allies, thereby eroding financial independence in journalism. “A journalist is a patriot who serves society, yet today many are compelled to write at the government’s behest,” he remarked.
He further attacked BJP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya for alleged derogatory comments against women and family values, saying the media failed to highlight the issue strongly.
Patwari concluded by reiterating Congress’s commitment to people’s struggles, extending full support to movements addressing environmental and health concerns from Meghnagar’s chemical factories.
