Patwari accuses State govt of neglecting rural development schemes

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari on Saturday alleged that the BJP government in the State had pushed the agriculture and rural development sectors into decline due to poor planning and financial mismanagement.

Addressing the media, Patwari said the government appeared more interested in publicity than in ensuring effective implementation of development schemes at the grassroots level. He claimed that even funds allocated under centrally sponsored programmes were not being fully utilised.

According to him, the State government had earmarked Rs 27,745.18 crore for rural development in the 2025–26 financial year, but only Rs 11,457.66 crore—about 41.3%—had been spent as of March 7, 2026.

He cited low expenditure in several schemes, including the Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (3.44%), Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (6.01%) and MGNREGA (18.16%).

Patwari said the figures reflected administrative negligence and lack of commitment towards rural welfare, adding that inadequate spending on key schemes would adversely affect employment generation, housing and infrastructure development in villages.
