Patwari accuses MP Govt of neglecting welfare schemes

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari has levelled serious allegations against the BJP-led state government, claiming it has become insensitive towards the poor, elderly, differently-abled persons and widowed women.

Patwari alleged that beneficiaries in the state have not received social security pensions, including old-age, disability and widow pensions, for nearly five months. He said the government spends crores of rupees to secure votes but has withheld money meant for vulnerable citizens who depend on such support. He termed the situation “inhuman and insensitive”.

He further criticised the government for weakening the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, stating that the scheme is close to being discontinued. According to him, the government has proposed limiting assistance to only about 200 marriages in each district, which would significantly reduce support to poor families.

Patwari also compared the scheme with similar assistance programmes in Uttar Pradesh, where financial aid of nearly Rs 1 lakh is provided for the marriage of daughters from poor families.

He alleged that while welfare schemes for the poor are being curtailed, around Rs 21 lakh is reportedly spent daily on the Chief Minister’s air travel. Patwari demanded immediate payment of pending pensions and restoration of the marriage assistance scheme in its earlier form to benefit more needy families.
