Patwari accuses BJP of betraying Ladli Behna beneficiaries

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jeetu Patwari has accused the ruling BJP government of deceiving millions of women under the Ladli Behna Yojana. He said that the scheme, launched with much fanfare, has turned into a symbol of “betrayal and false promises”.

Patwari stated that before the Assembly elections, the BJP had promised to provide ₹3,000 per month to each beneficiary from June 2023. However, in reality, only ₹1,000 per month was paid initially, and the amount was later increased to ₹1,250 under public pressure in October 2023.

According to Patwari, if the government had fulfilled its promise, it should have disbursed a total of ₹1,09,620 crore by now. Instead, only around ₹40,000 crore has been distributed — implying that the government has withheld nearly ₹69,620 crore meant for the women.

“The Chief Minister should sit down with pen and paper and calculate honestly who is lying to the people,” Patwari remarked, adding that the BJP’s unease reveals the extent of its deception.

He further alleged that the state’s liquor trade was controlled by those close to the ruling party. “Everyone in Madhya Pradesh knows who runs the liquor business, who profits from it, and who stays intoxicated by power,” he said.

Patwari concluded that the growing discontent among Ladli Behnas shows they are now demanding accountability — and this time, the public will not forgive the BJP.
