Pathankot–Jogindernagar Broad Gauge survey completed, DPR underway

Dharamshala, Dec 18 (UNI) Kangra Lok Sabha MP Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj on Thursday said that the union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed in reply to his question in the Lok sabha that the survey for converting the 200-km-long Pathankot–Jogindernagar narrow gauge railway line into a broad gauge line has been completed, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared.
Dr Bhardwaj said that the union Minister stated that the survey of the 57-km Jogindernagar railway line has also been conducted, but traffic projections on this section have been assessed as low.
Replying to another query, Vaishnaw said the Bilaspur–Manali–Leh railway line has been identified by the Ministry of Defence as a project of strategic importance. He informed that the survey for the rail line has been completed and the DPR has already been prepared.
The Minister further added that the project, estimated to cost Rs 1.31 lakh crore, envisages construction of a 489-km-long railway line, of which about 270 km will pass through tunnels.
