- Vendors assault passenger in Somnath Express; viral video sparks outrage
Bhopal: A complaint to the Railway Minister about illegal vendors overcharging for food proved costly for a passenger travelling on Indian Railways. In a shocking incident aboard train number 11463 Veraval-Jabalpur Somnath Express, a group of 4–5 illegal vendors reportedly assaulted a passenger after learning that he had complained against them.
According to information, the incident occurred near the Vadodara Railway Division. The passenger had purchased food and a water bottle from a vendor, who allegedly charged more than the MRP. When the passenger questioned the overpricing and also pointed out the poor quality of the food, the vendor got into an argument and walked away. Soon after, a group of vendors wearing blue shirts approached the passenger and started beating him without warning.
Video shows 4-5 uniformed vendors attacking passenger
The entire assault, captured in a 19-second video, has gone viral on social media. It clearly shows four to five uniformed vendors attacking the passenger while a few co-passengers tried to intervene and defuse the situation. The victim is reportedly a resident of Narsinghpur district, though his identity has not yet been confirmed.
A co-passenger named Divya Gaurav Tripathi recorded the incident and shared it on social media while tagging Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In her tweet, she wrote that passengers are now being assaulted by railway-associated goons for simply reporting overcharging. She questioned the safety and accountability of services in Indian Railways, stating that such goon behavior is unacceptable.
The video and tweet have since sparked public outrage, with many demanding strict action against the attackers and improved passenger safety.
