Bhopal: Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH), Bhopal and Bhopal Birds Conservation Society jointly organised the first phase of the butterfly survey of the museum campus on 31st August, 2025 to identify the species of butterflies and to estimate their numbers.
About 20butterfly interested students, butterfly survey experts and scientists participated in this programme.
During this, butterfly survey participants surveyed the different areas of the museum campus by Pollard Walk method. After completion of both phases of the butterfly survey of the museum campus, a report will be prepared by compiling their numbers and the different species found.
In the first phase of the survey, about 35 species of butterflies were spotted like Common Tiger, Striped Tiger, Common Crow, Common Grass Yellow, Danaid Egg Fly, Lime Butterfly, Great Egg Fly, Common Emigrant, Baronet, Grey Pansy, Tawny Coster, Red Pierrot, Palm Fly, Common Castor, Common Mormon, Common Cerulean, Angled Pierrot, Common Jezebel etc..
During this survey, life cycle stages of butterflies such as eggs, caterpillar, pupa etc. were also identified and a list of their host and nectar plants is also being prepared.
Dr. Sangeeta Rajgir and Mohd. Khalique from Bhopal Birds Conservation Society were the experts of this Survey. Scientist-C Shri Manik Lal Gupta; RMNH, Bhopal and volunteers Dr. Sanjeev Rampalliwar, Gaura Joshi Nenwani and Mrs. Ratanmala Mishra were also present during this survey.
