Parliament scuffle: India bloc MPs write to Speaker Om Birla

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The INDI Alliance on Thursday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing anguish over the alleged “mishandling” of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi by MPs of the ruling party and urged him to take appropriate action in this regard.

The letter signed by India bloc MPs from the Lok Sabha including KC Venugopal, Supriya Sule, Dimple Yadav, Saugata Roy and others alleged that the “peacefully protesting and marching” MPs from the Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar statue to Makar Dwar were physically obstructed from entering the Parliament through the Makar Dwar.

They said that the “physically manhandling of Rahul Gandhi” by the ruling party MPs was a “clear violation of the privileges extended to the Leader of Opposition and infringes on the rights accorded to him in his official capacity as an MP”.

“Their conduct was not only a blatant assault on the personal dignity of Shri Rahul Gandhi, but antithetical to the democratic spirit of our Parliament,” the Opposition MPs said in the letter.

Earlier in the day, a scuffle between the BJP and the Congress left two BJP MPs — Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput — injuried at the Parliament premises.
