New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The classic romantic drama Parineeta, featuring Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan, returns to theaters nationwide on a limited one-week reissue beginning August 29, to mark its 20th anniversary.
A production of Vinod Chopra Films and helmed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, the film has been newly released in India’s first ever full 8K restoration, with remastered 5.1 surround sound.
The re-release is a milestone occasion for Vidya Balan as it was her debut film in Bollywood and this year marks the completion of her two-decade journey in the industry. It also coincides with Vinod Chopra Films’ 50th anniversary.
The whole restoration process was done by Vinod Chopra Films in association with L’Immagine Ritrovata, the renowned restoration laboratory in Bologna, Italy.
PVR INOX, the national leader in movie exhibition, will release the film across select theaters across the country. The restored re-release welcomes back old fans and new ones to experience the cinematic enchantment of Parineeta in its most colorful form ever.
Looking back at the re-release, Vidhu Vinod Chopra remarked, “It’s more than just a movie—it’s a journey of love, sophistication, and soulful music. Each frame bears its own emotion. now richer and more vivid in 8K”.
Vidya Balan, who played the legendary Lalita in the movie, described the scene as profoundly emotional, saying, “Every frame carries a piece of my heart… I hope a new generation discovers old-world love through this.” Saif Ali Khan also reminisced about the fond memories of how the film influenced his subsequent career.
Starring Aparna Sen, Arjun Chakrabarty, and Kazi Khademul Islam, Parineeta is remembered for its evergreen soundtrack—songs such as “Piyu Bole,” “Kasto Mazza,” and “Kaisi Paheli Zindagani”—and poetic expression of love and yearning set against the backdrop of 1960s Kolkata.
