Lucknow, Dec 14 (UNI) The appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary, MP from Maharajganj and union Minister of State for Finance, as the new Uttar Pradesh BJP State President has further increased the political importance of Purvanchal, especially Gorakhpur.
Both Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Pankaj Chaudhary hail from the Gorakhpur region. With one holding the reins of the government and the other leading the party organization, Gorakhpur has emerged as the new center of power and strategy for the BJP.
On Sunday, Pankaj Chaudhary’s name at a program held at the Lohia Auditorium of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University in Lucknow, declaring his unopposed election on Saturday.
Since Chaudhary was the only candidate for the president’s post, his election was a foregone conclusion on the day of nominations.
The announcement of the state president’s election was made by Central Election Observer and BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde.
Central In-charge of the state president’s election and union Minister Piyush Goyal, and State Election Officer and former union Minister Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey were also present on the stage.
Mahendra Nath Pandey formally announced Pankaj Chaudhary’s victory and handed him the certificate.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, outgoing State BJP President Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, State General Secretary (Organization) Dharmpal Singh, along with several senior party leaders, MPs, MLAs, and office bearers were present on the occasion.
The party workers displayed great enthusiasm and energy during the program.
Chaudhary is the 17th president of the Uttar Pradesh BJP. He is the fourth state president from the Kurmi community.
Earlier, Vinay Katiyar, Om Prakash Singh, and Swatantra Dev Singh had held this position from the same community. Initially, several names were being discussed for the president’s post, but as soon as Pankaj Chaudhary’s name came forward, the political equations quickly shifted in his favor.
This is considered a significant event in the history of the BJP’s organizational elections. After the election of Laxmikant Bajpai, this is the first time that a formal election process has been adopted for the post of State BJP President.
The party leadership hopes that the upcoming assembly elections in 2027 will see better coordination between the organization and the government under Pankaj Chaudhary’s leadership, and that this will benefit the BJP in the elections.
