Multan, Jan 18 (UNI) Pakistan seized control of the first Test against the West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium, establishing a 202-run lead by the end of the second day, thanks to a stunning spin display by Noman Ali and Sajid Khan.
At stumps, Pakistan were 109 for 3 in their second innings after bad light curtailed play.
Skipper Shan Masood led from the front with a fluent 52 off 70 balls, including two sixes and two boundaries, while Mohammad Huraira provided steady support with 29 runs. Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel will resume the innings on Day 3.
Earlier, Pakistan’s spinners wreaked havoc as the West Indies were skittled for just 137 in 25.2 overs. Noman bagged his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests, finishing with figures of 5 for 39, while Sajid dismantled the top order with 4 for 65.
West Indies’ lower order offered resistance, with Jomel Warrican remaining unbeaten on 31 and Jayden Seales blasting a quick-fire 22, including three sixes. The duo added a valuable 46 runs for the final wicket.
Pakistan had resumed Day 2 on 143 for 4 but were bowled out for 230, with Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan contributing 84 and 71, respectively. For the visitors, Seales and Warrican claimed three wickets apiece, while Kevin Sinclair chipped in with two.
