New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday accused the Opposition of targeting her with personal remarks and baseless allegations, saying she was pained by the way a woman chief minister was targeted.
Speaking during the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address in the Delhi Assembly, she alleged that she was troubled by repeated attempts to undermine her work.
“A woman chief minister working round-the-clock does not seem to sit well with them. Sometimes they make insulting remarks, or cheap comments, baseless allegations, and sometimes they nitpick words,” she said.
Referring to criticism of her speeches, Gupta said even minor slips were blown out of proportion. “If I mistakenly said ‘Congress’ instead of ‘British’ in my speech, they immediately started making reels. This is the lowest level of politics I have seen so far,” she said, adding that while her errors were unintentional, the Opposition had “knowingly misled the people of Delhi.”
Launching a sharp attack on AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Gupta said those who once took oaths on their children, and claimed they would not seek power, cars, bungalows or posts eventually travelled “from Ramlila Maidan protest to the Sheesh Mahal.”
She also alleged that the Assembly was deliberately referred to as a “gallows house” as part of a conspiracy.
Gupta accused AAP leaders of intentionally insulting religious gurus, saying such actions were not accidental but deliberate.
Targeting the previous government, the chief minister said the current Delhi government does not believe in politics of protest. “This government believes in cooperation, not confrontation and in systems, not slogans,” she added.
