Tehran, Mar 6 (UNI) The Iranian government confirmed on Friday that more than 170 students of an elementary school were killed in the US-Israeli bombing on February 28, saying children account for about 30 per cent of the people killed in the war so far.
”In their heinous crimes, the US-Israeli aggressors bombarded an elementary school in Minab, in the southern province of Hormozgan, which resulted in the killing of more than 170 students,” Iranian government spokeswoman, Fatemeh Mohajenai, said.
She said children and young adults account for about 30 per cent of the people killed in the Israeli-US bombing.
She, however, did not give the number of those killed or injured in the nearly week-long war so far.
The government spokeswoman said 390 residential units, 528 trade-commercial units and 13 healthcare and medical treatment centres have been attacked by the US-Israeli forces since the outbreak of war on Saturday, according to Israel’s Mehr news agency (MNA).
Some sports complexes have been targeted, including the 12,000-seater Hall of Azadi Sports Complex, which has hosted the national competitions in sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, wrestling and futsal.
Also, Be’sat Sports Complex in southern Tehran and installations of the complex have also come under attack by the US and Israeli forces, she said. Two municipalities had also been attacked.
The spokeswoman said nine centres belonging to the Red Crescent Society have been attacked, resulting in the killing and injuring of people.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Friday that its drone and missile units destroyed US THAAD and FPS132 radars stationed in different countries in the region, the IRGC said in a statement on Friday. According to the statement, the THAAD radar systems were in the UAE and Jordan. The statement also said the FPS132 was deployed to Qatar and was destroyed by drone and missile units.
IRGC spokesman Khatam al-Anbia Base said a US oil tanker was targeted near Kuwait waters in the Persian Gulf on Friday. Further details were not immediately available.
The IRGC said the 20th wave of Iran’s combined missile-drone operation started on Friday by firing homegrown “Kheybar” missiles against Israeli positions in Tel Aviv.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned President Trump, saying ‘Plan A’ for a swift and complete victory was defeated and ‘Plan B’ will lead to an even greater defeat.
In a tweet addressed to Donald Trump, Araghchi said ”Mr. President, ‘Plan A’ for a swift and complete victory was defeated and ‘Plan B’ will lead to an even greater defeat. Plan A for a clean, rapid military victory failed, Mr President. Your Plan B will be an even bigger failure. The truth: Chance for unique deal burned after the ‘America Last’ cabal obscured “significant progress” we made in negotiations.”
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, while commenting on the US plan of sending ground troops inside Iran, warned that thousands of them would be killed or captured alive.
US comments on the Iranian claims were not immediately available.
