New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Over 109 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Monday due to adverse weather conditions, severely disrupting arrivals and departures at major airports such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
The airline said adverse weather conditions have disrupted flight schedules and advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. IndiGo also recommended leaving earlier than usual, as low visibility has affected road traffic and movement.
Earlier, at least 68 flights were cancelled and five were diverted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Monday due to dense fog and low visibility.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a heavy fog alert for Delhi and other northern Indian airports, urging passengers to check their flight status, allow extra travel time, and remain patient as safety takes priority.
A statement posted on X by the ministry reads, “Heavy Fog Alert for Northern India. Delhi (DEL) & other airports are experiencing dense fog, severely affecting visibility. For passengers: check your latest flight status with your airline, consult the airport website/app, and allow extra travel time. Safety is our top priority. Our teams and ATC are working tirelessly to minimize disruptions. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.”
Both IndiGo and Air India issued advisories, urging travellers to plan carefully, stay updated on flight schedules, and allow extra time for their journey as airline and airport teams manage operations amid challenging weather conditions.
Delhi-NCR woke up to its first dense winter fog of the season, significantly reducing visibility around IGI Airport and affecting travel across the region. Authorities warned that low-visibility conditions are likely to continue impacting flight schedules.
IndiGo stated, X: “Delhi is seeing its first hint of winter fog this morning, and visibility around the airport is currently reduced. As operations adjust to the changing weather, some flights may take longer to depart.”
The fog has also played its part in slowing down the traffic, prompting officials to advise passengers to allow extra time when traveling to the airport. Airline and airport teams are closely monitoring conditions, prioritizing safety while adjusting operations to the weather.
Air India added, “Poor visibility due to dense fog is impacting flight operations in Delhi and parts of Northern India. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport.”
IGI Airport confirmed that flight operations are continuing, but flights not equipped for CAT III operations,which allow landings in very low visibility—may face delays or disruptions.
