Bhopal: A disturbing incident has rocked the city after a 12th-grade student was allegedly gang-raped at a hotel in the Kolar area. The crime only came to light when the victim was found to be pregnant, revealing a shocking cover-up attempt by local police. The authorities are being criticized for their handling of the case and for allegedly trying to keep the matter hidden from the media.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was reportedly lured to the RV Palace hotel in June 2025 by an acquaintance, Pranay Raibole, who invited her to a birthday party. At the hotel, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by Raibole and another man, Sumit Upadhyay. According to the victim’s statement, after the assault, the men sent a female friend, Nitya Thackeray, to take her away. The victim was held in a rented room until she managed to contact her father, at which point the crime was finally exposed.
Police under fire for shady handling
Kolar Road Station House Officer Sanjay Soni stated that the initial case was registered as a kidnapping, but a medical examination revealed the victim was one month pregnant. This led to the men, the woman, and the hotel owner, Amit Verma, being charged and arrested under various sections, including the POCSO Act. However, sources claim police deliberately filed the case under kidnapping initially to suppress the gravity of the incident and avoid media attention. All suspects have been sent to jail, and further investigation is underway.
