Organic Haat brings fresh, chemical-free produce to residents

  • Benefits consumers and boosts farmers’ incomes

Gwalior: To ensure easy access to genuine organic products for city residents, a weekly organic market—popularly known as the Organic Haat—is being organised every Sunday on Mela Road, in front of Agriculture Complex. The initiative, launched under the guidance of Collector Ruchika Chauhan, is proving beneficial for both consumers and farmers.

Every Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, farmers from across the district bring chemical-free organic produce directly to the market. The stalls offer a wide range of items including organic pulses, rice, wheat, porridge, guava, amla, and vegetables such as potatoes, radish, spinach, carrots, bathua and beans. Organic inputs like vermicompost and vermiwash are also available. On Sundays, thousands of residents visit the market and purchased organic products worth several thousand rupees.

Deputy Director of Agriculture and Project Director ATMA, Ranveer Singh Jatav, said that all products sold at the Organic Haat are fully traceable, with buyers informed about the farmer and farm of origin, along with health benefits. Farmers are earning 40 to 180 percent more than in conventional markets, encouraging organic farming. Interested farmers can contact market in-charge Malkhan Singh Gehlot at 9826189202.
