Only Congress gives workers the right to elect their leaders: PCC Chief

  • Youth Congress Membership Drive Begins in MP

Bhopal – The Youth Congress has officially launched its membership campaign in Madhya Pradesh, marking the beginning of organizational elections aimed at energizing the party’s grassroots. The drive will run from June 20 to July 19, inviting participation from youth aged 18 to 35.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari said the party is focused on “organizational creation” — a democratic process to elect leaders at every level: state, district, assembly, block, and committee.

“Only in Congress do workers truly have the freedom to choose their own leaders,” Patwari emphasized.

“More than 4,500 candidates have contested across various stages, and this transparent and inclusive process is what sets us apart.”

He credited the initiative to Rahul Gandhi’s vision and praised Mitendra Yadav for overseeing the internal elections with fairness in a short time frame.

= ‘New roles for new people’

Patwari reiterated that the Congress party is committed to empowering fresh faces.

“We are giving new responsibilities to new people—this is how we build a dynamic organization,” he said.

He mentioned that around 20 candidates are contesting for the post of State Youth Congress President and General Secretaries.

= On scuffle videos during the campaign

Responding to viral videos showing scuffles during the membership drive, Patwari acknowledged the incidents but made it clear that the party will not tolerate indiscipline.

“Wherever there has been misconduct, strict action has been taken. The Congress will not compromise on discipline, no matter where it happens,” he said.

He revealed that nearly 6 lakh people have already participated in the organizational drive and met with designated observers.

= Reactions on Vande Bharat violence and Yoga Day

Patwari also commented on the recent violent incident aboard the Vande Bharat Express, blaming BJP leadership.

“The bloodshed was incited at the behest of a BJP MLA. It exposes the real character of the BJP and its growing culture of aggression,” he said.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, however, Patwari struck a more conciliatory tone, commending the government’s efforts to promote wellness.

“Yoga is a positive initiative. I welcome this effort and urge every citizen of Madhya Pradesh to embrace exercise and yoga for a healthier life.”
