Onam celebrated with fervour

Bhopal: The Malayali community celebrated Onam festival with traditional fervour on Friday at V.D. Nair Complex, Mahabali Nagar. A huge Pookkalam (flower rangoli) was decorated in the courtyard, through which Emperor Mahabali and Lord Vaman were welcomed.

This tradition has been continuously followed here for the last 20 years. In the program that started at 10 am, the residents participated in traditional costumes and collectively decorated Pookkalam and celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Vaman with gaiety.

Onam is considered a festival that connects society and family. This ten-day festival begins with Attam Nakshatra and ends on Thiruonam Nakshatra. Like all the communities of Kerala, this festival was celebrated in Bhopal with traditional colors and cultural fervor.
