Om Birla to inaugurate Panchayat se Parliament 2.0 on Monday

New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate and address a one-day “Panchayat Se Parliament 2.0” programme, to be held at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan here on Monday.

The programme will bring together 502 elected women representatives from Scheduled Tribes from 22 states/UTs, ensuring a diverse and inclusive group, a Lok Sabha Secretariat said.

It is aimed at empowering elected women representatives from Scheduled Tribes from Panchayati Raj institutions and enhancing their knowledge of constitutional provisions, parliamentary procedures, and governance to foster effective leadership. It is also to recognise the good work done by these ST women PRI representatives in diverse fields, including education, rural development, etc.

Organised in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the program will have workshops and sessions, a guided tour of the new Parliament House, Samvidhan Sadan, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, and Rashtrapati Bhawan for the participants, offering them a deeper understanding of India’s legislative process and the functioning of democratic institutions.

Interactive workshops and sessions will be organised for the participants, which will be moderated by distinguished experts and Members of Parliament.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Vijaya Rahatkar, and others will grace the occasion. Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha, will deliver the welcome address.

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, will address the second session later in the day.

On the occasion, the Speaker will also lead the delegates in reading the Preamble to the Constitution of India.

This programme is being organised in continuation of the “Panchayat Se Parliament 2024,” which engaged 500 women Sarpanch from across India.

The second edition, Panchayat Se Parliament 2.0, seeks to build on the progress made, further strengthening the leadership capabilities of women, especially in rural and tribal communities.
