NYC screening of India’s Oscar entry Homebound ‘surreal’:Karan Johar

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Filmmaker Karan Johar described the New York screening of India’s official Oscar entry, Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, as a surreal experience, calling it “another remarkable chapter” in the film’s journey.

Taking to Instagram, Johar shared a heartfelt note of gratitude for Scorsese, praising the cinematic milestone and the global recognition the film continues to receive.

The special screening was attended by Homebound’s director Neeraj Ghaywan and the film’s lead cast. Sharing photos from the event, Johar wrote, “Taking our story of Homebound across continents and seas has been the most surreal journey… and this is another chapter of it! Our NYC screening, hosted by our executive producer Martin Scorsese, was a night filled with friends showing up with their full hearts. Thank you!”

He also added, “This means everything to us, your love and support make it all worthwhile. I’m bummed to have missed it, but I feel absolutely whole knowing our film is getting everything it deserves.”

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound follows two childhood friends from a small North Indian village as they pursue a police job that promises them long-denied dignity.

However, their dream comes at the cost of a friendship tested by growing desperation and ambition.

The film, featuring Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role, has already made waves on the global festival circuit, with screenings at Cannes 2025, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM).
