Bhopal: Activists of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Friday submitted a memorandum to Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, raising a series of demands related to student welfare. The memorandum was presented in a peaceful and democratic manner under the leadership of NSUI state secretary Aman Pathan.

Through the memorandum, the organisation demanded the establishment of a government university in the Narmada region, the immediate restoration of students’ union elections across the state, and the installation of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Makhanlal University campus or the naming of a prominent auditorium or building after him.

Addressing the gathering, Pathan said it was a matter of serious concern that a vast and historically significant region like Narmada Aanchal still lacked a government university, affecting the future of thousands of students. He added that the suspension of students’ union elections had suppressed students’ democratic voice.

He further said that commemorating Mahatma Gandhi at the university would inspire students with values of truth, morality and democracy. The NSUI stated that it would continue its statewide agitation on these issues, including the ongoing “Jan Chetna Padyatra” from Narsinghpur to Narmadapuram.
