NSUI stages demonstration over irregularities at NRI Nursing College

Bhopal: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday staged a forceful protest outside the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) office, alleging large-scale irregularities at NRI Nursing College, Bhopal, and its affiliated Arnav Hospital. The organisation also accused the inspection team of submitting a forged and misleading report to shield those responsible.

NSUI state vice-president Ravi Parmar said the matter concerns students’ futures, the quality of healthcare services and public interest, demanding immediate and strict action. Despite earlier complaints filed on 26 August, the Nursing Registration Council reportedly continued to grant recognition to the college.

Parmar noted that following NSUI’s detailed complaint on 10 October, the CMHO was directed to conduct an inspection. However, he alleged that CMHO Manish Sharma ignored these instructions. The inspection conducted on 17 October by Dr Ritesh Rawat and Dr Abhishek Sen allegedly resulted in a falsified report that misrepresented the hospital as a fully functioning 100-bed facility.

NSUI leaders claimed that nearly 60 per cent of the nursing staff listed at Arnav Hospital were fake, with several government hospital nurses shown as employed there without their knowledge. Written complaints submitted by staff nurses on 8 December further alleged misuse of their registration numbers.

The NSUI demanded suspension of the inspection team, formation of a high-level inquiry, FIRs against the college, hospital management and officials, seizure of CCTV footage, and a full audit of staff records. The organisation warned of intensified agitation if prompt action is not taken. Police were deployed in large numbers at the protest site.
