NSUI protests against assault on student

Bhopal: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a strong protest on Thursday following allegations that Sanjay Jain, Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Pharmacy Council, assaulted student Tushar and threatened to kill him when he approached the Council office seeking resolution of a registration issue.

Led by NSUI State Vice-President Ravi Parmar and District President Akshay Tomar, NSUI workers marched to the Pharmacy Council office and held a vociferous demonstration. As a mark of protest, they blackened the nameplate of Sanjay Jain within the Council premises.

Parmar said it was “deeply disturbing” that a student visiting a constitutional council for legitimate academic concerns was allegedly beaten and injured. Such an incident, he asserted, raised serious questions about the functioning of the State’s education and health systems. He added that a person accused of such conduct had “no moral or legal right” to continue in a public position.

Tomar condemned the alleged act of dragging the student into a room, assaulting him and issuing death threats, calling it both “shameful and criminal”.

The NSUI put forward several demands, including the immediate removal of Sanjay Jain from his post, registration of an FIR for assault, intimidation and illegal confinement, an inquiry into the role of Council staff and guards, preservation of CCTV footage, strict guidelines for student handling in constitutional bodies, and withdrawal of any FIR filed against the student.

Parmar warned that if swift action was not taken, NSUI would launch a statewide agitation, stating that violence against students would “not be tolerated under any circumstances”.
