Indore: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Monday staged a symbolic protest in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area over deaths allegedly caused by the supply of contaminated and polluted drinking water. The demonstration was led by NSUI State president Ashutosh Chouksey.
During the protest, demonstrators symbolically smeared cow dung on a banner bearing the image of Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava. The NSUI clarified that the act was not intended to insult any individual, but was meant to represent an attempt to “cleanse” an administrative system and mindset that, it alleged, had itself become polluted.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Chouksey said the supply of contaminated water to citizens was a grave issue and that the administration had failed to act in time. He stressed that fixing accountability and ensuring systemic improvements were essential in such cases.
He further alleged that when citizens were losing their lives due to dirty and unsafe water, the conduct of a senior BJP minister in evading questions and misbehaving with journalists reflected the government’s insensitivity. The NSUI, he asserted, would not allow public concerns to be silenced.
The NSUI demanded the immediate resignation of Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, holding them morally responsible for municipal negligence and the alleged mistreatment of journalists.
