New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today reviewed the low-lying areas of the Yamuna floodplains as the river water level was in the alarm zone, even as she asserted that there was no flood-like situation in the city, adding that the levels will now gradually recede in a day or two.
Gupta paid a visit to the low-lying floodplain area of Yamuna Bazar, and stepped into the water logged lane to take stock of the arrangements and spoke to the residents as well as assured them of help from the agencies.
Gupta informed that the situation is under control, the river water level had come close to 206 m in the morning hours, but did not cross the mark, and is likely to recede.
The CM, while speaking to reporters informed that it was because the water was nearing the 206 m mark, it entered the floodplain area and reached the Yamuna Bazar.
She said that the houses here are in the floodplain area, with the spot being at a lower point, while the government had even urged the people to move to the alternative sites arranged and facilities put in place.
CM said that the local residents of the Yamuna Bazar area had been requested to shift to schools, where relief camps are set up and arrangements are made for food and medical relief.
She informed that arrangements of solar powered floodlights are also in place so there are no problems during night, as the place is facing electricity problems.
Gupta mentioned that the water level rising was at its peak this morning, and now the water will slowly recede.
She said that the control room is keeping a hawk’s eye on the situation round-the-clock, while the rescue teams are on standby and on alert to tackle any situation.
CM has assured the residents of the Yamuna Bazar and also the entire city that the government is with them at every step and people’s safety and security is the top most priority of the government.
