NITES demands immediate probe into TCS mass layoffs

Bengaluru, Oct 2 (UNI) NITES today demanded that the Indian government immediately launch a probe into Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) over mass terminations, unfair practices, and systemic discrimination, calling the company’s conduct “exploitative” and “unacceptable.”

The organisation said employees in both the US and India are the ones who pay the price, facing job loss, uncertainty, mental trauma, and coercive conditions.

NITES lashed out at sections of the business media for attempting to whitewash TCS’s practices by emphasising severance packages, outplacement services, or mental health programs, insisting that no cosmetic benefit can erase the larger pattern of exploitation.

“No cheque, no token counselling session, no severance package, if at all given, can compensate for the humiliation, harassment, and trauma an employee faces after being forced out of their livelihood,” the organisation said.

The demand follows a letter from US Senators Charles Grassley and Richard Durbin to TCS CEO Krithi Krithivasan, questioning the company’s decision to lay off over 12,000 employees worldwide, including in Jacksonville, Florida, while simultaneously hiring 5,505 H-1B workers in fiscal year 2025.

The Senators highlighted that TCS is already under investigation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for allegedly replacing older American employees with H-1B workers from South Asia and have sought detailed responses by October 10 on hiring policies, wage parity, recruitment practices, outsourcing of H-1B workers, and employee displacement.

NITES reaffirmed its commitment to stand firmly with employees and vowed to continue fighting until accountability and justice are ensured, signalling that neither international attention nor cosmetic measures can obscure the reality of exploitation at TCS.
