India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, defeated New Zealand, captained by Mitchell Santner, by a massive 96-run margin to successfully defend their title in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
India posted a record 255/5 in the final, the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final. Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 off 21 balls, striking six fours and three sixes, and shared a 98-run partnership with Sanju Samson to give the hosts a flying start.
Chasing a daunting 256, New Zealand were rocked early by India’s bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) and Axar Patel (3/23). India continued to strike regularly as the Kiwis were eventually bowled out for 159, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.
