Nine-day Novena in honour of Velankanni, mother of good Health commence

Bhopal: The celebration of Velankanni Mother, revered as the Patroness of Health, has begun in Bhopal with the traditional flag hoisting at several churches. This event signifies the start of the nine-day novena and prayer gatherings.

At Our Lady of Co- Cathedral, Arera Colony, Archbishop Dr. A.A.S. Durairaj S.V.D. presided over the Holy Mass along with Father Ajay Ekka, other priests, and a large congregation of devotees. The Archbishop blessed the ceremonial flag and hoisted it in the church compound. Bearing the image of Velankanni Mother, the flag will remain displayed throughout the novena and will be lowered on the final day to formally conclude the devotion.

In his homily, Archbishop Dr. Durairaj reflected on Mary’s spiritual journey, emphasizing that as the mother of Jesus Christ, she is a profound model of surrender to God’s will. Despite challenges, her steadfast faith and obedience continue to inspire the faithful in their spiritual lives.

Fr. Alfred D’Souza informed that the novena will end on 7 September, followed by the grand celebration of Mother Mary’s birth anniversary on 8 September. During the novena, daily Holy Masses and sermons will be conducted in different Catholic churches across the city by various priests, each focusing on themes connected to the Mother of Health. Devotees will offer prayers for good health, national prosperity, and world peace.
