New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Nina Dobrev is making notable progress in her recovery from a serious dirt bike accident that occurred in May, and has revealed that she is ahead of her expected timeline.
According to local media reports, speaking at the Shiseido Blue Project’s 4th Annual Beach Clean-Up in Huntington Beach, California, the 35-year-old actress discussed her healing journey.
“I think I’m doing pretty well,” Dobrev said, “My doctors were pretty surprised by my quick recovery.” Although she is “a little ahead of schedule” in her recovery, she acknowledged that the road to full recovery remains long.
Dobrev, who sustained a torn ACL, a meniscus tear, and a fractured tibial plateau in the accident, admitted, “I didn’t realise it meant nine months to a year of recovery.”
Currently three and a half months into her recovery, Dobrev stated, “So there’s still a ways to go.” She emphasised the importance of patience, noting that “people are frequently re-injured when they begin to feel better and resume normal activities too quickly.”
During her recovery, Dobrev has received substantial support from her boyfriend, Shaun White. She shared, “Especially the Olympics,” referring to how White arranged for a wheelchair to minimise her walking during their trip to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. “All those streets are closed, so you have to walk from venue to venue,” she explained. White’s thoughtful planning eased the trip for Dobrev.
Dobrev has been transparent about her recovery on Instagram, where she recently posted a humorous update. “Glad I don’t KNEE’D those crutches anymore,” she wrote on July 28, marking her decision to stop using crutches.
She also cited Olympian Lindsey Vonn’s openness about her knee surgery as inspiration for sharing her own story. Viewing the accident as a sign to slow down, Dobrev expressed optimism, stating, “Since I started walking & travelling a bit I’ve been feeling much more positive.”
