New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) A key accused in the 2023 Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan petrol bomb blast case was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Poonamallee, Chennai.
Vinoth alias Karukka Vinoth has been sentenced to 7, 3 and 2 years respectively under various sections of IPC.
He has also been sentenced to 5 years under section of 506(ii) of IPC, 10 years each under sections 3(a)(b), 4(B)(i) and 5(a)(b) of the Explosive Substances Act, besides 3 years under the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damages and Loss) Act.
All these sentences will run concurrently to maximum of 10 years of RI. The accused also faces a fine of Rs 5,000, with 6 months of additional sentence in the event of default in payment.
The accused had hurled two petrol bombs at Raj Bhavan Gate-I on October 25, 2023, resulting in an explosion and damage to government property. NIA, which took over the investigation from the local police on the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, submitted its final report to the NIA Special Court on January 19, 2024 after a thorough probe.
