NHRC notices over death of 5-year-old student allegedly beaten by teacher in Jharkhand

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Jharkhand, and the Superintendent of Police, Hazaribagh, seeking a detailed report within two weeks in the reported death of a 5-year-old student at a residential school allegedly due to severe beating by a teacher.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 24 when the child was assaulted for refusing to eat, according to his brother who is also a student at the same school.

In a statement issued here today it said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of the reports about the tragic death of the kid.

The NHRC observed that if the reports are true, the matter constitutes a grave violation of human rights.

According to media reports the accused teacher and the school manager are currently absconding, said the statement.
