Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 1 (UNI) Marking the New Year with a major push for public health, the Kerala State Health Department will launch its people-centric wellness campaign ‘Arogyam Anandam – Vibe 4 Wellness’ on Thursday, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating the programme at the Central Stadium here.
Around one million people are expected to take up physical exercise on New Year’s Day as part of the initiative.
The campaign is a key component of the second phase of the Nava Kerala Karma Padhathi – Ardhram Mission, under which the Health Department is implementing 10 major projects, with special emphasis on preventing lifestyle diseases and promoting healthy living.
The initiative aims to improve the physical and mental well-being of people across all sections of society through wide public participation.
Vibe 4 Wellness focuses on four core pillars: Healthy dietary habits, regular physical activity, adequate sleep and rest, and mental well-being.
To ensure sustained and community-led health practices, the campaign will be implemented through the leadership of 5,416 community health centres and about 10,000 yoga clubs across the State.
The inaugural function will be presided over by Health Minister Veena George and attended by ministers, public representatives, health workers, celebrities, and members of the public. Parallel programmes will be organised in all districts to encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The launch also marks the culmination of a state-wide awareness rally that began from Kasaragod on December 26 and travelled across Kerala before reaching Thiruvananthapuram.
As part of the campaign, the public is being encouraged to take a health pledge on New Year’s Day 2026 and integrate healthy habits into everyday life.
Health officials said the campaign builds on findings from the Ardhram health outreach programme, under which household screenings of people above 30 years revealed that 34 per cent suffer from hypertension and 24 per cent from diabetes.
The initiative follows the cancer prevention drive ‘Arogyam Anandam – Akattam Arbudam’, under which more than 20 lakh people have already been screened.
A wide range of activities promoting wellness, including cycle rallies, group runs and walks, yoga and fitness sessions, sports events, traditional art forms, and awareness programmes, will be held across the State as part of the campaign.
