New Low Pressure Area forms over Bay, North, South TN dists to get heavy rains on Feb 21, 22

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) A new Low Pressure Area has formed over the Bay which was expected to bring heavy rains in Southern and Northern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and its neighbouring districts for two days from tomorrow.
In an update on Saturday said, the wet spell would continue at isolated places over the State till February 25 with light to moderate showers.
The earlier system formed a couple of days has become less marked and moved towards Sri Lanka and a new system has formed over the same region today.
Meanwile, light rain occurred over Nilgiris, Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts, while dry weather prevailed over rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
There was no large change in minimum temperature over these areas during the past 24 hours.
It said under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region at 0530 hrs today.
It now lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean at 0830 hrs today and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean during the next 24 hours.
Yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal has merged with the above system.
It said yesterday’s trough from the cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal to the Lakshadweep area across South Tamilnadu and South Kerala between 3.1 and 4.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
The forecast for the next seven days is light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at a few places over South Tamil Nadu and at isolated places over North Tamil Nadu (Chennai, neighbouring Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts), Puducherry and Karaikal area. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over the southern Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts tomorrow.
On February 22, light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at a few places over South Tamil Nadu and at isolated places over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Madurai districts.
While light rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area for the next three days till February 25, dry weather is likely to prevail over these regions on February 26 and 27.
Thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Met office said there would also be slight rise in minimum temperature during day till February 25 over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The forecast for Chennai city and its neighbour hood is sky conditions would be partly cloud with light rain likely to occur in some areas.
