New high-capacity Thyristors commissioned at BHEL Bhopal Foundry

By BHEL Correspondent

Bhopal: BHEL Bhopal’s Foundry Shop (Block-5) successfully commissioned high-capacity rectifier and inverter thyristors for its induction furnace on February 2, 2026, marking a significant operational upgrade. The enhancement is a strategic gain for the Feeders Department, as it directly reduces heating cycle time and increases the frequency of daily “heats”, resulting in a substantial improvement in casting productivity.

The commissioning reflects focused planning and execution by the foundry and maintenance teams, aimed at improving throughput and ensuring consistent production performance. By optimising furnace efficiency, the upgrade is expected to support higher output levels and strengthen delivery commitments across product groups.

The achievement was marked with a ceremony attended by Executive Director (HEP Bhopal) Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay, who commended the foundry team for maintaining timely deliveries. Senior officials present included General Manager (Feeders and Transformer Manufacturing, Commercial and Maintenance) Rupesh Telang; General Manager (Feeders) Santosh Dongre; Additional General Manager (Foundry Shop) Anil Kumar Singh; Senior Deputy General Manager (FYM) Satyendra Singh Patel; and Deputy General Manager (FDX) Mukesh Bhagoria, along with officers and employees from the Foundry Shop and Maintenance departments.
