- Congress takes a jibe
Bhopal: A newly constructed overbridge in Madhya Pradesh’s capital has become the center of a raging controversy due to its highly unusual 90-degree turn. The peculiar structure, located in Bhopal’s Aishbagh area, has drawn sharp criticism from the Congress party and ignited widespread debate on social media, with many users labeling it a “disaster waiting to happen.”
Drone footage of the bridge, showing its abrupt, sharp angle, has gone viral across social media platforms, fueling concerns about its safety and design.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Umang Singhar, took a scathing dig at the government on social media, calling the overbridge a “unique monument to the equations and right angles of corruption in Bhopal.” He declared, “The 90-degree overbridge near Aishbagh Stadium is not just a bridge; it’s a bridge of scams.”
Singhar directly challenged Cabinet Minister Vishvas Sarang, who holds a civil engineering degree: “Under the ‘special supervision’ of Civil Engineering degree-holder Minister Vishvas Sarang, this ‘unique specimen’ is now being considered a miracle of architecture and engineering by the entire country. The whole nation is marveling at the BJP government’s development model on social media.” He mockingly suggested that the Technical Education Department should include this bridge as a case study in its curriculum, so future engineers can learn “what wonders like the Aishbagh Stadium Overbridge is born when columns of corruption and commission are erected on beams of scams.”
The construction of this bridge in the old Bhopal area reportedly took approximately eight years. Intended to alleviate severe traffic congestion in the region, its controversial design has instead made it a focal point of intense political and public scrutiny.
