New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Bas de Leede starred as the Netherlands secured a commanding seven-wicket win over Namibia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, on Tuesday.
Tasked with chasing 157, the Dutch side overcame early hiccups to reach 159 for three in just 18 overs, with de Leede anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 72 off 48 balls, including five fours and four sixes.
The Netherlands got off to a shaky start when Max O’Dowd was dismissed for seven in the third over. De Leede then steadied the innings alongside Michael Levit, with the pair adding 30 runs for the second wicket before Bernard Scholtz removed Levit for a brisk 28 off 15 balls, which included three sixes and a four.
Colin Ackermann contributed 32 runs before being dismissed in the 14th over. Captain Scott Edwards provided an unbeaten 18 off nine balls, including a four and a six, as the Netherlands completed the chase comfortably.
Earlier, Namibia posted a competitive total of 156 for eight after the Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl. Nicol Loftie-Eaton top-scored for Namibia with 42, while Jan Frylinck added 30 as the pair shared a 50-run stand for the second wicket.
Namibia’s innings was dented early with the loss of Lauren Stienkamp for six. Logan van Beek broke the Loftie-Eaton–Frylinck partnership in the 10th over, dismissing Frylinck, and later removed Loftie-Eaton in the 15th over. Bas de Leede also chipped in with the ball, dismissing Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus for 18.
JJ Smit (22), Jean Green (9), and Ruben Trumpelmann (9) added useful runs lower down the order as Namibia finished on 156 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
For the Netherlands, Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede claimed two wickets each, while Arian Dutt and Fred Klaassen picked up one apiece. Bernard Scholtz, Ruben Trumpelmann, and Nicol Loftie-Eaton took one wicket each for Namibia.
