Neighbor sentenced to jail for murder of 55-year-old over Rs 30,000 debts

Berasia: An eerie silence hung over the quiet road connecting Berasia and Shamshabad on the morning of August 26, broken only by the chilling discovery of a body. The victim, 55-year-old Mokam Singh, was found lying in a pool of blood, his life brutally cut short. The swift action of the Berasia police, however, quickly unraveled a tale of betrayal and cold-blooded murder.

The investigation led detectives to Mokam Singh’s own village and to the door of his neighbor, Anil Yadav. Under intense interrogation, Yadav confessed to the crime, revealing a motive as old as time: a debt of money that had festered into a fatal rage. According to Yadav, Mokam Singh had owed him

Rs 40,000 but had only repaid Rs 10,000, stubbornly refusing to clear the remaining Rs 30,000 despite having the means to do so.

The night of August 25 started with shared drinks, a final, fateful attempt to resolve the financial dispute. As the liquor flowed, so did the tension. When Mokam Singh again refused to repay the debt, a furious Anil Yadav seized him, his hands tightening around Mokam’s throat until his final breath.

Yadav has since been presented in court and sent to jail, leaving a community to reckon with a tragedy born of greed and a friendship shattered by a mere thirty thousand rupees.
