Brussels, Sep 15 (UNI) NATO Military Committee Chair Adm. Rob Bauer said on Saturday that he considers allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range missiles supplied by the West to be “justified” from a military point of view.
“In accordance with the law of armed conflict, every nation that is attacked has the right to defend itself, and that right does not stop at the border of your own nation,” Bauer said following an annual NATO Military Committee Conference in Prague.
He added that from a military perspective, there are strong reasons why Kiev should do so in order to weaken its enemy, including by disrupting its logistics, fuel, and ammunition supplies on the front line.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier said that NATO countries are currently discussing not only Kiev’s possible use of Western long-range weapons, but are essentially deciding whether to directly engage in the Ukrainian conflict.
Direct participation of Western countries in the Ukrainian conflict will change its essence; Russia will be forced to make decisions based on the threats thus created for it, he said.
