Mumbai Marathon Ethiopians dominate international categories; Srinu Bughata top Indian finisher

Mumbai, Jan 21 (UNI) Ethiopian long-distance runner Lemi Berhanu Hayle secures victory and retains the International Elite Men’s title at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024.

Srinu Bugatha is the first Indian to cross the finish line, ahead of Gopi and Sher. Minsewo shines brightly as the champion in the International Elite Women’s category, while compatriots Muluhabt Tsega came in second and Medhin Bejene came in third.

Srinu Bugatha clocked 2:17:29 to finish 8th overall and top in the Indian Men’s Elite.

The 19th edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, also widely regarded as Asia’s premier running event, kicked off in the early hours of Sunday, January 21. Almost 59,000 people participated in the event.

The marathon was kicked off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde.

The participation breakdown includes 10,711 runners in the Marathon, 15,218 in the Half Marathon, 7,130 in the Open 10K, 20,590 in the Dream Run, 1,782 in the Senior Citizens Run, and 1,114 in the Champions with Disability category.
