Multiple US military aircraft downed in Kuwait as Middle East conflict intensifies

Kuwait City, March 2 (UNI) Kuwait has reported that several US military aircraft were damaged, but all American personnel on board are safe, according to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense.

The ministry shared the information on social media. Official spokesperson Colonel Saad Al Atwan stated that search and rescue teams immediately began operations after the incident was reported. Some injured personnel were taken to hospitals, and the accident site is being cleared.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

“The crews were evacuated from the crash sites and transferred to the hospital to assess their condition and provide necessary medical care,” he said, adding that they are in a “stable” condition.

Al-Atwan said Kuwait was in “direct coordination” with US authorities.

A wide corridor of airspace over the Middle East remained closed on Monday, as countries neighboring Iran restricted flights in and out of the region.

The Middle East is home to several major airlines, including Emirates and Etihad, based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and Qatar Airways, based in Doha. All three cities are major global aviation hubs, with millions of passengers transiting through them each year.

Airlines have been forced to cancel flights to and from multiple cities in the region. Cruise operations have also been affected. Germany’s TUI Cruises said two of its ships would not proceed with their scheduled sailings and that passengers remained on board and were “being cared for.”

Travelers have been advised to check with their airline or travel agent as soon as possible for information on rebooking and refunds. However, many passengers have reported difficulties obtaining assistance due to high call volumes.

Multiple governments are reportedly discussing options to bring stranded citizens home, including arranging repatriation flights. Some countries with large migrant worker populations in the region have already announced evacuation plans.

On Indian citizens stranded due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working promptly to secure their rescue and safe return.

Talking to the mediapersons in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, the Minister said that the previous governments did not offer such comprehensive aid, which is now managed by the Ministry of External Affairs through its missions in various countries.
