Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Police have carried out a major crackdown on organised fraud gangs involved in hiring vehicles and illegally mortgaging them to third parties in Gwalior and Indore districts. Over the past 10 days, police have seized 54 four-wheelers worth more than Rs 6.5 crore in coordinated operations.
In Gwalior, the Crime Branch arrested an accused who posed as a manager of a private company and hired several vehicles from travel operators. Using forged and fabricated documents, he mortgaged the rented cars to others for illegal financial gain. Acting on his disclosure, police seized 15 four-wheelers valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore.
Similarly, in Indore, Annapurna police station cracked a large-scale vehicle fraud racket. The accused used to rent cars from owners through 11-month written agreements, regularly paying rent for the initial two to three months before mortgaging the vehicles to others. He later removed GPS systems installed in the cars and stopped paying rent altogether. Following a complaint, a case was registered and investigation revealed that more than 40 vehicle owners had fallen victim to the scam. The accused was arrested, and 39 four-wheelers worth over ₹5 crore were seized on his information.
These joint actions by the Madhya Pradesh Police have exposed an organised fraud network and provided significant relief to affected vehicle owners, underscoring the force’s prompt and effective response to financial crimes.
